National Tsing Hua University and Prince of Songkla University Collaborate to Cultivate International Young Elite Talents

National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) has earned its world-renowned reputation in the areas of sustainable development and net zero emission. Through the Taiwan-Thailand Overseas Research Center for Water Innovation and Sustainable Energy (WISE Center), NTHU has forged a close collaborative relationship with leading universities and research institutions in Thailand. To implement the MoU and foster young elite talents, a total of 50 persons including 45 students and 5 faculty members from Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, led by the Dean of Faculty of Science, Professor Anchana Prathep, visited WISE Center and College of Engineering, NTHU on May 07, 2024 to discuss the possible academic collaboration and young elite talent cultivation.

The delegation of PSU, Thailand kicked off with welcome speeches by Prof. Ruey-An Doong, co-PI of the Taiwan WISE Center and Professor Heh-Nan Lin, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering. The meeting focused on the introduction of both research activities and possible collaboration topics on fostering young elite talent. In addition to the visit of students to racing car and robotics laboratories, the faculty members of PSU also discussed in depth with invited members from the WISE Center the possible opportunities and potentials of both universities to continue to cooperate in the fields of net zero emissions, AI and semiconductors to cultivate young elite talents. Since Dean Anchana Prathep is also in charge of the Thai government in planning the 2050 net-zero emission strategy on blue carbon, the reinforced collaboration on the water-energy nexus and negative carbon technology is the focus of the meeting. 

With the support of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and the Taiwan-Thailand WISE Center, NTHU has achieved remarkable results in the field of hydropower linkage and net zero emissions with top universities in Thailand. Through continuous research visits and discussions, both sides have deepened the mutual cooperation as well as built up the consensus of cultivating elite talents. It is envisaged that, under the framework of academic cooperation, a technical platform for innovative research and industry-academia exchange will be established, and an innovative cooperation model will be used to become an overseas hub center for expanding academic cooperation and industrial alliances in the future in the fields of clean water quality technology, sustainable energy development, and environmentally friendly advanced materials. By deepening the cultivation of Southeast Asia and South Asia, this initiative seeks to enhance the international influence of Taiwan in the field of sustainable development and clean technology.
