CMU and NUS Held The 3rd CMU-NUS Joint Symposium to Strengthen Bilateral Research Cooperation

China Medical University (CMU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) held The 3rd CMU-NUS Joint Symposium on August 30, 2019. Director Dow Rhoon Koh of International Relations, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, led eight scholars from NUS to visit CMU for academic exchanges. Director Koh hopes that the two universities can establish a broader international cooperation in new drug development and Chinese medicine, while President Mien-Chie Hung of CMU also shared his innovative research on the combinational therapy of the target therapy and immune checkpoint treatment.

 

During the opening remarks, President Hung expressed his gratitude that the two universities have been working closely in research and teaching. President Hung also emphasized that he will continue supporting the bilateral cooperation between CMU and NUS.

 

Director Koh said, “Professor Yap Seng Chong, the Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, is very supportive of the cooperation between CMU and NUS. The ongoing cooperation project between CMU and NUS will continue for three years.” In addition, Dean Chong promised to provide funding for the research cooperation in new drug development and Chinese medicine. “We hope that the research scholars of both universities will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation,” he said.

 

The 3rd CMU-NUS Joint Symposium focused on the research discussion in aging, cancer, neuroscience, stem cell, and Chinese medicine. Scholars from both universities have formed collaborative research teams in those fields. In the symposium, seven scholars from NUS and eight scholars from CMU gave presentations on their research topics. In addition, 20 postdoctoral researchers and PhD students from CMU presented their research in the poster session. The symposium attracted over 60 faculty members, postdoctoral researcher and students from CMU. It is a feast of high level academic exchange between CMU and NUS.

 

During the symposium, Dean Liang-Yo Yang (CMU Office of Global Affairs), arranged a meeting for Director Koh, Professor Chon-How Tsai (Dean of CMU College of Medicine), and Professor Yi-Hung Chen (Associate Dean of CMU College of Chinese Medicine), to discuss potential future collaborations in medical education, medical simulation, and Chinese medicine education. Moreover, Dean Yang led Director Koh and Associate Professor Li Wen Deng on a visit to the Chinese Medicine Hospital of China Medical University. They were very impressed about the training of Chinese medicine doctors and the modernization of Chinese medicine treatment at China Medical University Hospital.
