The COVID-19 pandemic has spread around the world since the beginning of 2020. Taiwan itself has controlled the spread of the disease well, however, the number of novel coronavirus cases in other Southeast Asian countries have been rising, especially the Philippines and India. Dr. Day-Yu Chao's lab at National Chung Hsing University that has a long-term collaboration with the Dean of the Philippines National Health Research Institutes is now helping the country to develop rapid test kits to strengthen local epidemic control.
Dr. Day-Yu Chao has been researching on Dengue fever for years. She has led her lab to conduct clinical research on Flavivirus with Philippines's researchers under the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan. During the outbreak, Dr. Chao and her team also initiated the collaboration on rapid test kits with the Philippines. MOST GASE visited Dr. Chao in her lab to get an insight into her experience in international collaboration and public health diplomacy.
