National Tsing Hua University Signs Memorandum of Understanding With Thailand National Metal and Materials Technology Center to Pioneer a New Collaborative Chapter of Water Energy Nexus and Sustainable Development Goals

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), an esteemed national laboratory under the auspices of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand. Since 2021, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan, has been jointly spearheading the "Taiwan-Thailand Innovation Centre for Clean Water and Sustainable Energy" with MTEC under the support of the National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan. To further fortify this strategic partnership, the NTHU team comprising 8 members, led by the Chair Professor and Senior Vice President Nyan-Hwa Tai, embarked on a visit to MTEC on July 17th. During this momentous occasion, the delegates participated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held in the conference room of the NECTEC Building at the Thailand Science Park.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Apinya Panupat, Head of the International Cooperation Division at MTEC, and graced with the presence of Dr. Julathep Kajornchaiyakul, Director of MTEC, and Provost of NTHU, Nyan-Hwa Tai, who delivered warm and welcoming remarks. Dr. Julathep expressed his heartfelt hope that this MoU would pave the way for robust and fruitful cooperation between both institutions in the vital domain of sustainable development. Provost Tai, in his address, highlighted the exceptional achievements of NTHU in the water-energy nexus and sustainable development goals. Notably, NTHU stands as the sole university in Asia to be honored with the prestigious STARS Gold Award. With the framework of this academic cooperation agreement, Professor Tai emphasized that both institutes are poised to achieve remarkable advancements through fruitful academic collaboration.

The formal signing of the MoU was witnessed by Dr. Aree Thanaboonsombut, Deputy Director of MTEC, and Professor Hung-Yin Tsai, Dean of the College of Engineering at NTHU. The agreement was officially signed by Dr. Julathep Kajornchaiyakul and Prof. Nyan-Hwa Tai, symbolizing the commitment of both institutions to embark on a shared journey of groundbreaking research and innovation. The event concluded with a joyful exchange of signed agreements and gifts of appreciation, culminating in commemorative photos of all participants. It is firmly believed that within the framework of this cooperative agreement, an innovative research and industry-academia exchange platform will be established, focusing on clean water, sustainable energy, and environmentally friendly nanomaterials. This dynamic platform will serve as an international hub, fostering greater engagement between Taiwan and Southeast Asia, as well as South Asia, thereby enhancing Taiwan's global influence in sustainable development technology.
